Programming Note: USians, urge your Senators to vote no on KOSA!
Hello, friends! Bad Advisor here.
If you're a Bad Advice reader, I suspect you agree it's really important that young folks, including and especially LGBTQIA+ teens, deserve safe and affirming places to gather online. The mis-named "Kids Online Safety Act," or KOSA, impedes rather than ensures this!
Contact your Senators today and let them know you oppose KOSA and they should, too!

Here, have a photo of the Bad Advisor's goober pets as a little treat.
The Swedish warship Vasa. It sank in 1628 less than a mile into its maiden voyage and was recovered from the sea floor after 333 years almost completely intact. Now housed at the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, is the world's best preserved 17th century ship
Kinda funny that the best example of its kind is the one that sucked as bad as it possibly could.
A note about accessibility for the blind
I think it would be incredibly useful if there were some function where one could turn off photos, and only be able to see text posts.
If I try to scroll through my dashboard it just goes "photo photo photo photo photo photo photo photo"ad nauseam.
Perhaps some sort of filter or way to go to 1 dashboard for photos and One dashboard for text. That, I could see being wildly useful for a number of people. Sometimes you want to look at art and sometimes you want to read.
The newest addition to changing font size and style when editing a post is quite inaccessible. It's very confusing to have the option to make text bigger pop up in a whole separate screen. Hard to navigate. It's very visual. I admire it from a design perspective for the people who can see but for me.. not so much.
Many of the buttons such as to click on a person's profile if you want to unfollow or block r "unlabeled", meaning my phone just says "unlabeled", so I have no idea what I'm clicking on. It's possible I could accidentally tip someone
Additionally, the ability to block people from all your blogs. If someone leaves a nasty comment on something from a side blog, you should be able to block them from your specific blog that they commented on, as well as your main blog. This is been an issue from the beginning. Shouldn't have to message someone or go on to a laptop to properly block them.
I was recently repeatedly harassed by someone and unable to block them because it was on my side blog, and they were using their side blog as well, which was definitely on purpose to make it even harder to block them.
Maybe when you hover over somebody's comment, and option should pop up to decide which blog/s you want to block them from.
I don't know the lingo to explain this last one as much, but maybe something that's easier to scroll with with two fingers. With many screen readers, you have to use two fingers to scroll, because one finger is used to drag around the screen to have it read out loud. Maybe a little sidebar where you can swipe up and down when it is selected, which is a feature that my phone does have. For example, if I click on volume controls, I can swipe up for up and down for down.
Oh yes, and this new thing where you can scroll through images only is kind of cool except they are not recognized as images by screen readers, and only read the username of the person who posted it, as well as asking to like and follow them. My phone can usually analyze pictures of text, but not through this feature.
Going through the whole app using a screen reader on IOS and Android would be a pretty good way to get an idea of some of the issues
I'd like to tag someone and I saw that really helpful woman whose username started with like. Zirg but I'll have to find it
